Human Rights in the heart of the territories

Make people aware of human rights at local level in order to better respect such rights in everyday life

The role of the Nantes Permanent Secretariat is to take action locally.  Indeed, the local authorities are more often than not left off the list of the human rights’ actors. The standards for the protection of human rights are prepared by international institutions, thus by the States; nevertheless, the daily trend of human rights also lies at the heart of the territories, in the cities and wherever citizens inhabit.

Local authorities should be implicated at the core of the process in order to protect, promote and implement human rights, thereby enabling a continuous and productive interaction among research entities, local decision-makers and the citizens themselves.

Thus, the Nantes Permanent Secretariat works on the project of writting the World Charter for Human Rights in the City in collaboration with UCLG (United Cities and Local Governments).
