The web exchange platform

Sharing workspaces online

Our Website, www.spidh.org, is already equipped with an extranet facility: a Web exchange platform enabling all interested persons, wherever they may be in the world, to work online.

Sharing workspaces online can thus be devised around themes linked – more especially - to the next World Forum on Human Rights.  Access is governed by an identification system (via personal codes).

Hence, anyone interested, even those not physically participating in the World Forum on Human Rights, may join in debate on their preferred area of interest, thereby enabling to prepare discussions prior to each Forum, to follow them during deliberations and refer to them thereafter.

How the Web exchange platform works

Sharing information...

An online workspace is a virtual zone enabling to bring various persons together around a common area of interest, e.g. a theme of the 2008 Forum.  Members of this workspace have practical and easy-to-use communication tools for gleaning and exchanging information (document centre, discussion forum, sending messages, sharing an agenda, etc.).

A workspace is composed of members and/or user groups, identified on the Home Page using a login & password. Requests to join in a workspace are registered, then validated by the Website administrator (the purpose is to check that the person requesting is indeed the person that he/she claims to be).  The latter then receives confirmation by e-mail that his/her demand has been taken into consideration.  He/she then becomes a contributor.  Then, after having logged in, such contributor may access the various workspaces in which he/she shall have enrolled.

Each workspace is managed by a “moderator”. A moderator is a volunteer designated in agreement with the Website administrator (such person could be, for example, someone having made a proposal on a work topic, or even someone in charge of an entity wishing to organise a round-table at the next Forum).  The moderator is in charge of animating the workspace, regulating exchanges and contributions where necessary, notably avoiding irrelevant subjects and banning all messages that may harm human dignity and the rights of man.  Each moderator may of course introduce new contributors wishing to participate in the online workspace. Contributions are put online after validation by the Website administrator.

What the platform proposes:

Forms enabling you to: (choose as required)

  • join in an online workspace
  • create an online workspace
  • create one’s personal area and then modify one’s choice of workspaces as necessary

Tools available to contributors:

Each person contributing is able to:

  • post a document that is only viewable by members of a particular workspace
  • propose a discussion theme via an online forum reserved for workspace members
  • view the agenda common to all workspace members
  • send an email to workspace members

In order to facilitate and make access to information more fluid, an e-mail alert is sent to all workspace members for each new contribution.

So come and visit the collaborative platform!  For a first subscription, all you need to do is to click on the "registration" link in the "Sharing workspaces online" zone on the Home Page.  Your request will then be submitted for validation by the Website administrator and you will receive a confirmation e-mail.
